The FineRegistration documentation is not that bad. Did you gave a try?

It would be good to have a note stating what the args mean and how best to configure them. I was able to figure it out by posting it on gis stack exchange here

I ended up switching to AROSICS as it worked (more or less) out of the box.

But the results of AROSICS are not accurately enought. Do you find the better way now?
